R. Glen Wiggans, M.D., Retired

R. Glen Wiggans, M.D. is board certified in medical oncology and internal medicine. He joined NEGACC in 1985, and has been principal investigator directing the group’s national research relationships and clinical trials since 2004. He views this research as an extension of his work for eight years on the medical school faculty at Yale University and in private practice in New Haven, CT. A graduate of Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA and Cornell University Medical College, Dr. Wiggans trained at Georgetown University Hospital and the Lombardi NCI Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. His research on topics ranging from pancreatic cancer to breast cancer and acute myeloblastic leukemia has been published in prominent international journals that include Lancet, Proceedings of American Society of Clinical Oncology, Blood, Cancer Chemotherapy Pharmacology, and The Journal of Lab and Clinical Medicine. A faculty member of the Medical College of Georgia as well as radio and community spokesman for NEGACC, Dr. Wiggans is well-regarded not only for his clinical expertise and research, but also for his kind and gentle ways of nurturing his patients. He is attending physician at Athens Regional Medical Center and St. Mary’s Healthcare System, and holds consulting privileges at Columbia Barrow Regional Medical Center in Winder and BJC Medical Center in Commerce. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology and Georgia Society of Clinical Oncology. He also has served on the Boards of Directors in Athens for St. Mary’s Hospice, American Cancer Society and the YMCA.
