Mark Vrana, M.D., Managing Partner

Mark Vrana, M.D., NEGACC’s senior physician and managing partner, is board certified in medical oncology and internal medicine. He brings nearly three decades of cancer research and clinical expertise to his cancer patients in Athens and Northeast Georgia. A graduate of Cornell University and Cornell University Medical College, Dr. Vrana spent three years in clinical medicine at the University of California Medical Center in San Francisco, and five years in research and clinical practice at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD. His research on cancer antigens, immunoglobulins and protein variations has been published in some of the nation’s leading medical journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Proceedings of National Academy of Science, Biochemistry, Quantitative Biology, and Journal of Immunology. An assistant professor of medicine at the Medical College of Georgia since 2001. Dr. Vrana believes every patient who walks through the NEGACC doors should be treated as a cherished individual entitled to the finest cancer care available. A calm, caring and reassuring presence with his patients, he has been on the front lines of the fight for every patient’s right, regardless of insurance, to receive quality medical care from the physician of his or her choice. He is attending physician at Athens Regional Medical Center and St. Mary’s Healthcare System, and holds consulting privileges at Stephens County Hospital in Toccoa, Habersham Medical Center in Demorest and Walton County Medical Center in Monroe. Dr. Vrana holds memberships in the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, Georgia Society of clinical Oncology and Medical Association of Georgia.
