Types of Cancer

Cancer can occur anywhere in the body. Thanks to support groups and fundraisers, we frequently hear about the more common cancers: breast, lung, prostate and colon.

However, cancer also can strike the liver, brain, endocrine system, bones, reproductive or genitourinary organs and elsewhere. Leukemia is cancer of the blood.  Lymphoma – either Hodgkin’s or non-Hodgkins – is cancer of the lymph gland system. When cancer cells are found in the body, but the place where the cells first started growing (the origin or primary site) cannot be determined, the diagnosis is cancer of unknown primary origin or CUP.

Following are links to the National Cancer Institute website that provides descriptions for most types of cancer.
